Orion detachment takes part in a multinational sports activity to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Spain in NATO

• The Spanish contingent participated in several races along with teams from other NATO member countries

The American facilities of the Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF HoA) held the sports competition organized to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Spain's admission into NATO. The competition took place at night to avoid the high temperatures already reached at this time of year in Djibouti.

In a multinational environment and accompanied by teams from other NATO member countries, a sporting event was developed consisting of various races whose distances were unknown to the runners. This modality was a challenge for the participants who were unaware of the distance to be covered until they reached the middle of the distance.

The Spanish personnel of the 'Orión' detachment of the European Union Operation 'Atalanta', were able to exchange experiences with personnel from the United States, France and Italy, countries that are also members of the Alliance.

The bonds of friendship and cooperation of the personnel deployed in Djibouti are strengthened with these activities.
