Bosnia i Herzegovina
March 22, 2021
  • The Spanish contingent is stationed at EUFOR HQ in 'Camp Butmir', Sarajevo

The Spanish servicemen who fill up positions within 'Althea' EU mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), has taken over. The ceremony took place at the European Force Headquarters (HQ EUFOR) in Camp Butmir (Sarajevo), observing all COVID19 protocols.

Despite the small number of military personnel serving in this mission (only two army officers are currently involved), it is worth mentioning the strong footprint and good memories that the Spanish contingents have left on this land and in the collective memory of the people of this country.

The new Spanish representatives on this mission, majors Daniel Alonso and Alejandro Jiménez, will maintain the high operational level that majors Hugo José O'Donnell y Armada and Manuel Holgado del Águila have achieved over the past six months. Before returning to Spain, the four Spaniards paid a warm tribute in memory of the 23 Spanish servicemen fallen in BiH.
