CAOC Torrejón Commander visits 'Tigru' Detachment in Romania

  • Lieutenant General De La Cruz, together with a delegation of Romanian personnel, visits the facilities located in Schitu

Lieutenant General Fernando De La Cruz Caravaca, Commander of NATO's Combined Air Operations Centre in Torrejón (CAOCT), visited the 'Tigru' Detachment - under national operational control of the Operations Command - which is located at Schitu, Romania.  The CAOC is responsible for NATO's air and missile defence in southern Europe.

Lieutenant General De La Cruz was accompanied by a delegation of Romanian AOC personnel, including General Valerica Vrajescu, commander of the Romanian Air Command, and General Maxim Gheorghe, commander of the Romanian 76th ISR Brigade. 

Following the welcome by the Head of the Detachment, a tour of the facilities took place: the technical telecommunications area, the security guard area, the technical radar area and the TPS-43M radar. During the tour, the different systems deployed in the area, which are necessary to guarantee the fulfilment of the mission, were shown.
