  • UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces carry out the joint exercise 'Steel Storm'

Spanish military members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) took part for five days in the joint real-fire exercise 'Steel Storm', which was carried out in a firing range south of the Force Headquarters, in Naqoura. Enhance mutual trust and improve cooperation and interoperability between the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and UNIFIL were the goals.

The exercises included shooting exercises and both dynamic and static exhibitions. Several elements of the Protected Light Tactical Group and the Task Force A from the Spanish contingent carried out live fire using their key resources. The medical evacuation cell (MEDEVAC) had an outstanding performance in staging an evacuation case of a casualty with troops in contact.

Units from UNIFIL's Western Sector (Ghana, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Ireland and Italy) and other contingents from the Eastern Sector led by Spain (India, Indonesia, Nepal) participated in the exercise as well.

UNIFIL Force Commander and Head of the mission, General Aroldo Lázaro, attended the exercises and praised the troops for their dedication and professionalism, stressing that these joint exercises contribute to increasing the capabilities of both forces and improving mutual respect, trust, cooperation and efficiency between the LAF and UNIFIL.
