The frigate 'Victoria' cooperates with the training of the Kenyan Navy and Coastguard Service

Mombasa, Kenya
November 21, 2023
  • - As part of its mission, the Visiting and Reconnaissance Troop (TVR) of the Spanish vessel carried out training with the Kenyan Navy.

The frigate 'Victoria' has called at the port of Mombasa, the second largest city in Kenya and the main port in East Africa. The vessel, belonging to the 41st Escort Squadron, has received on board a commission of student officers from the Kenyan Navy Naval School and personnel from the coastguard service, to carry out a day of instruction and training.

The activity, which focused on visit and search and combat health care, was mainly developed in three areas: control of personnel, movements inside and outside a ship and health care for a firearm wounded person in combat situation (TCCC).

After receiving the theoretical part given by the TVR, the ship's health personnel and the ROLE 2, the members of the Kenyan Navy together with the Coast Guard, carried out practices of search, grilling, self-defence, tourniquets, treatment of the wounded and movement on the outer decks of the ship, as well as the procedure for entering the interior compartments.

While this activity was being carried out, the Commander of the frigate 'Victoria' made a protocol visit to the Mtongwe naval base, the main base of the Kenyan Navy and where its Fleet Headquarters is located. There it was received by Brigadier Peter Chelimo, Commander of the Naval Base, accompanied by subordinate commanders, with whom it held a meeting.

The Spanish ship therefore contributes to the instruction and training mission of EUNAVFOR, enhancing the capabilities of the coastal countries, strengthening ties and promoting stability in the area.
