· The ship has made its last stopover in the port to be replaced by the frigate “Victoria” in the Atalanta operation
The Commander of the “Canarias” frigate, together with some of its representatives, have visited the Nativity School in Djibouti, on the occasion of the last stopover in the port, in order to be replaced by the frigate “Victoria” in operation Atalanta.
Spanish soldiers have been welcomed by the school principal and the Franciscan sister Justine. They have shown the facilities and the school centre to soldiers. Around 1.100 students from 4 to 11 years old study at the school, considered the most prestigious in the city.
The frigate´s crew has also taken this opportunity to provide them with school material, clothes and food, as well as a private donation collected on board, thanks to the generosity of the Spanish military. Said donation will be mainly used for covering the expenses of children from low-income families.
The visit to the school has been a very rewarding experience for the frigate, following the tradition of the Navy´s ships which docked in the Port of Djibouti of assisting, wherever possible, access of those children to, at least, basic education.
