The Spanish contingent deployed in Latvia is visited by the Speaker of Congress Meritxell Batet

• eFP X contingent welcomed the Speaker and a delegation from the Congress Bureau at the Adazi base

The Speaker of the Spanish Parliament, Meritxell Batet, visited the eFP X contingent deployed at the Adazi base in Latvia. During her visit, the Speaker addressed the troops deployed in Latvia and saw first-hand the work of the Spanish contingent in the multinational area.

The head of the eFP X contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Fuentesal García, explained to the parliamentary delegation the mission and tasks that the Spanish military carry out in the Baltic country. The group had the opportunity to check in a vehicle exhibition the capabilities that Spain contributes to the multinational Battle Group, such as the Mechanized Tactical Subgroup, the Field Artillery Unit and the Engineers Unit, in addition to an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battery in support of the air defence structure of Latvia.

The eFP mission celebrates 5 years in Latvia since a multinational Battle Group was deployed in 2017 with the mission of dissuading any attempt of aggression against the territory of Latvia. During the last year, Spain has proved its commitment to the Atlantic Alliance and its allies in Eastern Europe by reinforcing the area with further resources.

This way, Spain not only reaffirms its commitment to collective defence, but also contributes effectively to national defence beyond its borders.
