Battle Group ‘eFP Latvia’ completes exercise ‘Summer Shield’

NATO’s Battle Group deployed in Latvia in the framework of the operation 'enhanced Forward Presence' (eFP) conducted ‘Summer Shield’ exercise between May 17 and 28. On this occasion, the NATO battalion was supported by a cavalry squadron from the eFP Poland Battle Group an engineer unit and a mechanised company from the 2nd Battalion of the Latvian Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

The purpose of this exercise was to improve the integration of the units of the Battle Group with units of the Latvian Brigade and other battalions involved in the eFP operation.

The contribution of the Spanish units has been diverse. The Spanish tactical subgroup led the opposition force that confronted the Tactical Group made up of the Multinational Battalion, the infantry company of the Latvian Battalion, a Latvian engineer unit and an American squadron. On this occasion, the Spanish unit was joined by an American tank platoon.

On the other hand, the Spanish engineer unit has been engaged in building defensive positions and exchanging knowledge with the Latvian engineer unit. In addition, mobility and counter-mobility actions were carried out, including the demolition of a simulated bridge.
