Head of the UNIFIL visits personnel deployed in Sector East

  • Lieutenant General Aroldo Lazaro emphasised the professionalism and readiness of the contingent deployed in this sector.

The Head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz, along General Gómez Lera, visited the positions of UNIFIL's Sector East along the so-called 'Blue Line'. During his visit, he was able to check the state of the contingent's and facilities.

During his visit, which included the positions of the Nepalese, Indian and Spanish Battalions, he heard a detailed briefing from the observer posts that monitor the Blue Line on how the latest events have evolved in each one of them. He was also interested in the security and living conditions of the facilities in these UN positions.

On the arrival of the Head of the UNIFIL Mission at the Miguel de Cervantes Base, was honoured in the surroundings of the Sector Headquarters. He saluted the heads of BRILIB XL units and the chiefs of contingents from the different countries working at the Base.

During his tour of the Miguel de Cervantes Base facilities, Lieutenant General Lázaro thanked the personnel, in this case Spaniards, Serbians and Salvadorians, for the work they are doing, as all operational activities continue to be carried out with an emphasis on security and self-protection measures. He encouraged them to continue along the same lines in the coming months.

He was also able to see the actions that have been taken and the work that has been carried out in the last two months, such as the construction of shelters and the secure tele-health room, projects that have been taken forward for possible implementation in other UNIFIL positions.

The Lieutenant General welcomed the Lebanon XL Brigade, which took over on last November 24th, and signed the Book of Honour of the Extremadura Brigade in Lebanon.
