  • The main task of this Spanish unit is to establish communications and information systems in UNIFIL Sector East.

The Signals Unit is made up of fifty military personnel, most of whom belong to the Legion Brigade's Signals Company, supported by personnel from the 21st and 22nd Signals Regiments and the 31st Electronic Warfare Regiment.

Among the tasks assigned are the establishment of communications and information systems in the Eastern Sector of UNIFIL, cyber defence, maintenance of transmission equipment and support for the rest of the units with satellite equipment on LINCE vehicles.

To carry out all of these tasks, the signals staff establishes several Communications Centres in the most important United Nations (UNP) positions. Its highly qualified and highly trained personnel ensure that the link is maintained twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, in faithful compliance with the Combat Spirit of the Legionary Creed "...without counting the days, months or years".

During their stay in Lebanon, they have had to face a demanding exercise, the 'Resilent Link', in which the deployment of the Forward Command Post is evaluated, as well as the procedures in the establishment of all communications services. To this end, the Signals Unit, in coordination with the HQ Unit, deployed to a UNIFIL position within Sector East.

The objectives of the exercise were met satisfactorily, demonstrating that they are capable of operating at full capacity wherever they are ordered to do so. All with the aim of responding to any contingency that may affect the development of the mission in fulfilment of the UN mandate.
