  • Spanish servicemen used snow plows and salt spreaders to clear the routes

An Engineer Unit from the Lebanon Brigade (BRILIB) XXXIV with specialized machinery has collaborated in the clearing of roads after heavy snowfalls on February 17 and 18, in southern Lebanon.

Spanish troops used different equipment, snow plows and other engineering machines, such as a salt spreader, to clear the snow routes included in the winterization plan of the United Nations Mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Aditionally they contributed to the clearing work inside some positions of the Indian Battalion in the Chebaa area.

As a result of the work carried out by sappers, the roads returned to normal for traffic, allowing the transit of different vehicles that had been blocked due to the great accumulation of snow in the area during those days.

Despite the low temperatures, all the clearing was completed before the ice layers appeared and posed a danger to UNIFIL personnel and Lebanese population traveling on these routes.
