  • The military personnel of the 3rd Infantry Regiment ‘Príncipe’ of the 7th Infantry Brigade ‘Galicia’ (BRILAT in Spanish) has provided this Basic Training Course

The group of Ukrainian soldiers that have completed their basic military training in the Combat Unit Training (UFC in Spanish) of the IV Operation EUMAM UA (European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine). The UFC components have formed up in the avenue ‘Gran Capitán’ of the Infantry Academy of Toledo, as a farewell gesture towards their Ukrainian fellows.

During the last weeks, the instructors – members of the 3rd Infantry Regiment ‘Príncipe’ of the BRILAT ̶ have trained them in basic aspects of combat training, such as rifle fire, machine gun fire and anti-tank guided missile system, topography, tactics (combat in battle positions and in built-up areas) or reaction to UAV actions, among others.

The training has came to an end in a diploma presentation ceremony, after which the most senior officer of the UAF contingent has expressed that the memories of their Spanish instructors will accompany them, without any doubt, on the combat front line.

EUMAM UA, support for Ukraine

The main objective of this EU mission is to contribute to the enhancement of the military capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine so that they are able to efficiently conduct their military operations, aimed at the defence of their territorial integrity within their internationally recognised borders, their effective exercise of sovereignty and the protection of civilians.

In Spain, these training activities are leaded by the Toledo Training Coordination Centre (TTCC) – under the command of the Operations Command – to which it reports organically- and coordinates its activities with different international structures, not only in the EU domain, but also within the framework of multinational agreements.

The TTCC consists of Burgos Headquarters, where the Combat Training Unit (UFC in Spanish) of Toledo –which has permanent nature and carries out both basic training and a wide variety of specific courses– and the Training Module (TM, the English acronym), which are activated to provide training in the requested specialties, both adhere. These courses take place in the facilities of the Army and the Navy that are located in different places across the Spanish national territory.

Spain’s Armed Forces have an extensive experience in missions of training military personnel of the Security Armed Forces and Corps from other countries, such as Iraq, Mali and Somalia, among others.
