'Tercio de Armada' starts a new training module for members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

San Fernando, Cádiz
July 5, 2024
  • This is the 8th module taught by the Combat Training Unit (UFC) of the Tercio de Armada and will be carried out by the 1st Landing Battalion of the Marine Infantry Brigade.
A new contingent of the Ukrainian Armed Forces begins its training in the Basic Training Course XXI (CFB), conducted by the eighth Combat Training Unit (UFC) "Tercio de Armada" in the framework of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM UA).

Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel are already in the province of Cadiz to begin their training, which will be conducted by the eighth CFU generated by the "Tercio de Armada" as part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine. Spain has so far contributed to this mission by training around five thousand Ukrainian military personnel.

The purpose of this mission is to improve the capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to protect its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, promoting deterrence and improving the response to possible military offensives.

The training of Ukrainian soldiers will be conducted by the personnel of the 1st Landing Battalion, supported by detachments of the 3rd Landing Battalion of the Marine Brigade "Tercio de Armada".
This training, which will last around five weeks, will take place mainly at the Sierra del Retín Manoeuvre Camp (CASR) and at the facilities of the Tercio de Armada. It will focus on basic individual training and individual combat techniques to train soldiers in conventional tactics as infantry fighters.

During the course, offensive and defensive exercises will be conducted in urban and open rural environments under conventional conditions, in addition to the use of weapon systems and tactical treatment of combat casualties, with the aim of facilitating the future integration of Ukrainian personnel into their units.

At the end of this module, nearly 800 members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have completed their training in the eight courses provided by the "Tercio de Armada" since it began its participation in the first half of last year.
