  • The Marine Brigade ‘Tercio de Armada’ has completed its seventh Basic Training Course in the framework of the European Union Military Mission in Support to Ukraine

A contingent of almost a hundred Ukrainian soldiers began their combat training in the Bay of Cadiz at the end of April. After more than a month of intense and demanding training given by the marines of the ‘Tercio de Armada’, they have successfully completed their training.

This course represented the seventh training module that the Marine Corps has carried out since the beginning of its participation in the EUMAM UA mission in April 2023. As in previous modules, the activities took place at the unit's facilities in San Fernando and at the ‘Sierra del Retín’ training camp.

The main mission of this course has been to train Ukrainian recruits to carry out a combatant's duties in infantry units.

During the development of the module, drills have been carried out focusing on training in individual combat techniques, offensive, defensive and urban combat tactics, tactical treatment of casualties in combat and the handling of different weapon systems. All activities have been adapted to the current conditions of the ongoing conflict.

On 18 May, the Minister of Defence visited the training area to check in situ the intensity and effectiveness of the training which the different contingents of Ukrainian soldiers deployed in the province of Cadiz have received.
