A platoon and a section of the 47th Palma Regiment conclude their surveillance patrols in Menorca

• Both units have ensured public safety as part of the Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations.

The 47th Palma Regiment has deployed platoon- and section-level patrols on the island of Menorca, as part of the Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations on national territory.

During this deployment, our military personnel have patrolled various locations across the Balearic island, with the aim of improving their knowledge of the area through surveillance tasks. In addition, they have provided support to the local civil authorities.

The deployed units have covered routes in the municipalities of Ciutadella, Alaior, Migjorn and Es Castell, with the aim of protecting the environment and contributing to the safety of the population, ensuring an effective response to any eventuality.

In these territorial deployments, the Balearic Islands Operational Command (MOBAL in Spanish) makes a tactical sub-group available to the Land Operational Command (MOT in Spanish) to carry out the assigned tasks.

Land Operational Command and the OPVDs

The Land Operational Command (MOT), under the command of Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera, is the body within the Armed Forces responsible for the planning, conduct and monitoring of all these operations under the operational control of the Operations Command.

Together with the MOT, the Maritime (MOM in Spanish), Air (MOA in Spanish), Space (MOESPA in Spanish) and Cyberspace (MOC) Operational Commands make up the structure of the Permanent Commands. On a daily basis, some 850 personnel from the Armed Forces are involved in permanent operations, which are conducted under the operational control of the Operations Command.

Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations are an effective tool for maintaining surveillance of areas of national sovereignty, enabling the early detection of threats and facilitating an immediate and viable response to a potential crisis.
