  • The Navy vessel has ensured safety in waters of national interest and has contributed to preserving the natural environment

The patrol boat Medas has carried out a mission of presence, surveillance and deterrence in waters near the Alboran Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar.

In addition to the security-related tasks in this strategic area, the Medas has contributed to the preservation of natural spaces.

During this activation, the Medas, under the command of Lieutenant Santiago González-Aller Rodríguez, has been integrated into the Maritime Operational Command (MOM), under the operational control of the Commander of Operations (CMOPS), and in coordination with the Maritime Action Operations and Surveillance Centre (COVAM).

The patrol boat Medas

The patrol boat Medas is part of the Maritime Action Force (FAM) which, within the Fleet, is made up of a group of units whose main task is to protect areas of permanent interest.

With a comprehensive approach, they ensure ongoing cooperation with the various government agencies with jurisdiction in the maritime sphere, contributing to the State's actions at sea.

Maritime Operational Command (MOM)

The Maritime Operational Command (MOM) is the operational arm of the Armed Forces, subordinate to the Chief of Defence (JEMAD) and responsible, at its level, for planning, conducting and monitoring presence, surveillance and deterrence operations in maritime areas of interest. It is under the command of the Admiral of Maritime Action (ALMART) and is based in Cartagena.

Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations

Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations are the tool that allows for the early detection of threats and facilitates an immediate and viable response to a potential crisis.

The Land (MOT), Maritime (MOM), Air (MOA), Space (MOESPA) and Cyberspace (MOC) Operational Commands constitute the Permanent Commands structure. Every day, thousands of Armed Forces personnel are involved in permanent operations under the operational control of the Operations Command.
