The Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) “Furor” has begun its activation, within the framework of the Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations (OPVD), to carry out maritime security and surveillance tasks in the Balearic and Alboran Seas, as well as in the Strait of Gibraltar. With the vessel integrated into the Maritime Operational Command (MOM), and under the operational control of the Commander of the Operations Command (MOPS), its main objective is to contribute to guaranteeing the integral protection of waters of sovereignty and interest.
During this activation, the “Furor” will carry out Maritime Security Operations (MSO), which consist of verification and control activities of maritime traffic in order to ensure freedom of navigation. It will also carry out naval presence actions in the vicinity of Alboran Island and Spanish sovereign waters in North Africa. For this operation, the BAM “Furor” has embarked a Marine Infantry Operational Security Team (EOS) to increase its force protection and maritime interdiction capabilities.
In addition to the operational activities, the “Furor” is scheduled to call at the port of Algeciras, where it will carry out different institutional activities and open days so that the public can learn about the ship's capabilities to contribute to the comprehensive security of the seas, which has such an impact on the daily lives of Spaniards. After completing this maritime security operation, the “Furor” will return to its base at the Cartagena Arsenal on 31 July.
