The Offshore Patrol Vessel 'Audaz' (P-45) has monitored Russian naval units while they navigated through Spanish sovereign waters.
Currently, the Audaz is engaged in a maritime surveillance operation in the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea. This mission is part of the broader Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations, integrated within the Maritime Operational Command and under the operational control of the Commander of the Operations Command.
During its deployment, the 'Audaz' carries out maritime traffic verification and control activities to ensure freedom of navigation in areas of strategic interest. It also conducts naval presence operations near the island of Alboran.
As part of the ongoing Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operation, the 'Audaz' has tracked three Russian naval units during their transit through national sovereign waters.
Maritime Operational Command (MOM)
The Maritime Operational Command is the body of the operational structure of the Armed Forces that reports to the Chief of Defence, responsible, at his level, for the planning, execution and control of permanent surveillance and security operations in maritime areas of sovereignty, responsibility and national interest. It is under the command of the Admiral of Naval Operations and it is based in Cartagena.
Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations
Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations are an effective tool for maintaining the security of sovereign spaces, allowing for the early detection of threats and facilitating an immediate and immediate response to a potential crisis.
The Land, Maritime, Air, Cyberspace and Space Operational Commands make up the Permanent Command structure. On a daily basis, there are about 3,000 Armed Forces personnel involved in this type of operations under the operational control of the Joint Operations Command.
