February 10, 2025

This new radar, manufactured in Spain, stands out for its ability to detect low-section targets, such as drones and stealth aircraft.

The first LANZA 3D-LRR radar has been in operation for 100 days since it was received by Air Surveillance Squadron No. 2 (EVA 2 by its Spanish acronym).

This radar represents a milestone in the modernization process of the Spanish Air Traffic Control System (SVICA) and is proving to be a fundamental step forward in airspace surveillance, surpassing the capabilities of the ALENIA radars that preceded it.

The LANZA 3D-LRR, manufactured in Spain, stands out for its ability to detect low-section targets, such as drones and stealth aircraft, which is so crucial in the face of modern aerial threats. It also improves integration with different systems, an important step towards the strengthening of national security and defence.

This radar not only enhances the operational capability of EVA 2, but also reaffirms the importance of technological sovereignty in defence. The national production of the LANZA 3D-LRR ensures strategic independence, while offering more effective and faster local support than other radars currently in service. With its incorporation, Spain is taking a firm step towards a more modern and autonomous defense, guaranteeing the security of the national airspace with state-of-the-art technology.

EVA 2 in Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence operations

EVA 2 capabilities - ground-based radar and telecommunications systems that must be operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - are critical in the execution of presence, surveillance and deterrence operations, which are led by the Air Operational Command and conducted under the operational control of the Operations Commander.

This unit, which belongs to the Combat Command of the Air and Space Forces and is based at the Villatobas Air Base (Toledo), carries out joint actions with other units of the same type in the National Air Defense System. The objective is to guarantee the security of Spain and its citizens against any threat from the air.
