- The ‘Navarra’, during its Operation Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence , conducts maritime surveillance in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The frigate F-85 ‘Navarra’ has been monitoring the Russian ships, the frigate ‘Admiral Gorshkov’ and the replenishment ship ‘Yelnya’, which were sailing through Spanish waters on their transit from the Eastern Mediterranean.
This tracking activity of the Russian vessels is part of Operation Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence , and its main objective is to preserve national interests and carry out surveillance of vessels of strategic interest transiting our sovereign maritime areas.
The ‘Navarra’, part of the Maritime Operational Command and under the operational control of the Operations Command , began tracking the Russian units after locating them south of the Balearic Islands and monitored them during their passage through Spanish sovereign waters from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Atlantic, until they left the Spanish Exclusive Economic Zone on the border with Portugal. After fulfilling its task, the Spanish frigate transferred the responsibility for monitoring to a Portuguese Navy vessel.
