The offshore patrol vessel 'Atalaya' (P-74) sets sail on a maritime surveillance and security mission

  •  The Navy vessel will carry out surveillance work in order to guarantee the security of maritime spaces of sovereignty and national interest

Today, the 'Atalaya' sets sail from its home port at the Ferrol Arsenal for its first maritime surveillance and security operation of 2024.

During the course of the operation, the vessel will have a naval presence in the EEZ, the Atlantic and Mediterranean peninsular coast, the Strait of Gibraltar and the island of Alborán. It will also be assigned tasks to protect submerged archaeological heritage and control fishing in Spanish waters, all in coordination with the Navy's Maritime Action Operations and Surveillance Centre (COVAM).

In addition, the 'Atalaya' will act in support of NATO's 'Sea Guardian' operation, whose mission is to control and protect the most important maritime communication lines in the area, as well as to prevent trafficking and illicit activities.
