Deployment of a Coastal Defence Unit to Menorca

Menorca
October 31, 2023
  • The Coastal Artillery Regiment No. 4 of the Field Artillery Command will deploy a Coastal Defence Unit on the island of Menorca from 5 to 12 November.

The Coastal Artillery Regiment No. 4 (RACTA 4), belonging to the Field Artillery Command, is the only Army unit that is equipped and trained to generate the capacity for coastal defence and control at any point of the national geography, or in any other place where international commitments require it.

In order to maintain the level of training achieved, the Regiment has formed a Coastal Defence Unit (UDACTA) with artillery material, command and control and logistical elements, with more than a hundred soldiers, who will move from San Fernando and Tarifa to Menorca between the 3rd and 14th of November.

For this deployment, which will be effective on the ground from 5 to 12 November, the units will move by road between the province of Cadiz and the port of Valencia, embarking there to travel by sea to the island of Menorca. The deployments will take place mainly in the vicinity of the port of Mahón.

This UDACTA is integrated into the Maritime Operational Command for the fulfilment of its permanent missions of surveillance of national sovereignty spaces.

The mobility of the materials and the linking capacity of the means of transmission are what give this Unit its marked expeditionary character, amply demonstrated not only in this deployment but also in other previous deployments, both on and off the peninsula.

Military personnel from the General Command of the Balearic Islands will also participate, contributing a Company with the mission of increasing the close protection capacity of all the elements deployed.
