The offshore patrol vessel Atalaya will call at the port of Malaga on July 7. The vessel will remain docked at the Levante no. 2 dock of the port of Malaga between the 7 and 9 of July, and will open its doors for public visits on Saturday 8 July from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00.
The Atalaya set sail on July 1 from its home base atthe Arsenal of Ferrol to conduct an operation of maritime surveillance and security. The navigation depends on the Maritime Operational Command (MOM), under the operational control of the Operations Command (MOPS).
During the operation, the vessel will take naval presence in the Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEE), the Atlantic coast and the Mediterranean peninsular coast. Likewise, it will be assigned tasks associated to the underwater archaeological heritage and fisheries control in Spain, all in coordination with the Navy Maritime Operations and Surveillance Centre (COVAM). Furthermore, the Atalaya will take action with support from the NATO Operation Sea Guardian, whose mission is the control and protection of the most important maritime lines for communication from the area, as well as to prevent trafficking and illicit activities.
