Deployment of a Coastal Defence Unit in Cartagena

Cartagena, Spain
April 24, 2023
  • The Coastal Artillery Regiment No. 4, of the Field Artillery Command, deploys in the area from 18 to 26 April

In order to maintain the level of training achieved, the Coast Artillery Regiment No. 4, belonging to the Field Artillery Command, constitutes a Coastal Defence Unit (UDACTA) with sensors, artillery pieces, logistical and command elements, which will move from San Fernando and Tarifa to Cartagena between the 18th and 26th of April. The deployments are mainly carried out inside the Algameca Naval Station and also in the facilities of the Tentegorra Barracks.

During this deployment, the UDACTA participates in an exercise of the Maritime Operational Command in the fulfilment of its permanent missions.

The Coastal Artillery Regiment No. 4 is the only Army unit that is equipped and trained to generate the capacity for coastal defence and control at any point of the Spanish geography, or in any other place where international commitments require it.

The mobility of the materials and the capacity to link up the means of transmission give this UDACTA its marked expeditionary character, facilitating participation in this type of exercises which, in previous editions, have been carried out in other parts of Spain, both on and off the Spanish mainland (Fuerteventura, Mallorca).

The Coastal Defence Unit has been reinforced by a company from the Zaragoza 5 Regiment, based in Javalí Nuevo, to increase the close protection capacity of all the elements deployed.
