  • Units of the 'Canarias XVI' Brigade will carry out several activities within the framework of the Land Operational Command

Several units of the 'Canarias XVI' Brigade, which make up the 'Canarias' Tactical Group, have started the development of different activities within the framework of the Land Operational Command (MOT), related to the Permanent Operations of surveillance and deterrence of the Armed Forces, under the operational control of the Operations Command. The units have been deployed in seven islands of the Canary archipelago, except La Graciosa.

For ten days, the 'Canary Islands' Tactical Group will carry out land surveillance activities and patrols on the islands, liaison tests with different means, planning and command post activities, as well as reconnaissance to gain a better knowledge of the geographical environment in which the units are deployed, especially on those islands where there is no permanent military presence.

On this occasion, the Tactical Group 'Canarias' has deployed about 500 soldiers and 60 vehicles. The Tactical Group is constituted on the basis of different units of the Canarias XVI Brigade, which are trained daily in different military facilities and maneuver and shooting ranges of the archipelago for the correct fulfillment of these missions.

Standing operations are an effective tool to maintain surveillance of sovereign spaces, which allows for the early detection of threats and facilitates an immediate and viable response to a potential crisis.

The Land (MOT), Maritime (MOM), Aerospace (MOA) and Cyberspace (MOC) Operational Commands make up the Permanent Command structure, which has more than 3,000 military personnel involved in these operations on a daily basis.
