In the Canary Islands
May 22, 2022
  • The Operations Command (MOPS) is leading the 'Sinergia 01-22' activation, part of the Armed Forces Day events.

Between 22 and 26 May, the 'Sinergia 01-22' force activation will be carried out in the Canary Islands, within the framework of the usual permanent surveillance and deterrence operations, under the operational control of the Operations Command. Thus, personnel and material from the Army, Navy and Air Force will participate in different activities to improve interoperability between the Permanent Operational Commands - Land (MOT), Maritime (MOM), Aerospace (MOA) and Cyberspace (MOC) - and thus contribute to the permanent deterrence, surveillance and presence of sovereign spaces, which includes our territory, the territorial sea, airspace space and cyberspace.

The Armed Forces as a whole, and especially their command structures at the strategic and operational levels and the forces assigned to Permanent Operations, are one more tool of the State to reinforce its commitment to the security of Spain and the defence of its sovereignty and interests, as well as its contribution to NATO in peacetime.

Activation 'Synergy 01-22'

In this activation, all the Command and Forces bodies of the Joint Force Core-1 (NFC-1 in spanish) Its objective is to contribute to ensuring and improving the integration of all the capabilities of the permanent Operational Commands by promoting synergies, maximising unit training and improving integration and interoperability procedures.

This will guarantee the permanent surveillance of areas of sovereignty and national interest, including land, maritime, aerospace and cyberspace.

To do this, land, maritime, air and cyberspace units will be deployed to coordinate and exchange procedures in a simulated crisis situation, during which they will have to interact in order to increase their knowledge of the environment of the Canary Islands.

Only with fully equipped and prepared Armed Forces can the security of all Spaniards be guaranteed, which is why the 'Sinergia 01-22' activation reinforces this commitment to be ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week, improving the interoperability of all their capabilities.

During the 'Sinergia 01-22' activation, and as in all operations of our Armed Forces, all measures are in place to guarantee maximum security measures, both personal and operational, to minimise the likelihood of any type of accident. Likewise, measures are taken to respect and care for the environment.

Permanent Operations

Permanent Operations are the most effective tool for maintaining knowledge of the areas of sovereignty and interest over time, which allows for the early detection of threats and facilitates an immediate and viable response to a crisis.

The Land (MOT), Maritime (MOM), Aerospace (MOA) and Cyberspace (MOC) Operational Commands make up the Standing Command structure.

These commands have more than 3,000 military personnel involved in these operations on a daily basis, who seek to have a good knowledge of the environment while guaranteeing an immediate response 365 days a year to any incident that may arise, all with the aim of preserving the security of all Spaniards.
