Aerospace Operational Command kicks off Exercise Eagle-eye-21

• The MOA, with transferred capabilities from the Air Force, Army and Navy, carries out its first activation of 2022 in Galicia

The Aerospace Operational Command (MOA) is conducting, from Monday the 21st until Friday the 25th, the first 'Eagle Eye' activation of this year 2022, which will take place in the Galicia region.

The Spanish Air Force provides the F-18 aircraf belonging to the 15^th Wing (Zaragoza) that contributes to the defence of the national territory by creating an air defence and police unit to intercept, identify and, if necessary, intervene in the traces assigned to them.

In addition, the Central Command and Control Group (GRUCEMAC), from Torrejón AFB, will carry out airspace surveillance with the information received from the Air Surveillance Squadrons (EVA), where the radars in charge of tracing the targets in real time are located. Specifically, in the area of Galicia, EVA No. 10, located in Noya. In addition, the Air Operations Centre (AOC) will tactically coordinate all assets involved in the activation.

The Spanish Army provides the 'Hercules' Air Defence Unit (UDAA) belonging to the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command (MAAA), led by GAAA I/74 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group (San Roque, Cádiz). During the deployment, it will carry out the assigned missions related to aerial surveillance and deterrence in response to alleged incursions and movements of unidentified aircraft.

The Navy, from the Atlantic Ocean, will contribute with the frigate 'Almirante Juan de Borbón' to national air defence operations, providing high capacity for detection, identification and air defence thanks to the SPY-1D radar and the AEGIS system.

‘Eagle Eye 22-01’ Activation

The 'Eagle Eye 22-01' activation, leaded by  the Commander of the Aerospace Operational Command (CMOA), takes place within the framework of the Armed Forces' permanent surveillance and deterrence operations, which are carried out 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Aerospace Operational Command (MOA) is the body within the operational structure of the Armed Forces responsible, at its level, for planning, conducting and monitoring the aforementioned operations in the aerospace field. It is directly subordinate to the Chief of Defence Staff (JEMAD) and under the operational control of the Operations Command (MOPS).
