Members of the ‘Tercio del Ampurdán’ IV Special Operations Group (GOE IV) have spent six weeks training members of the Senegalese Armed Forces on a course in special operations and combat in aquatic environments in Toubakouta, Senegal.
The Saloum Delta environment offers excellent opportunities for this type of specialised training; therefore, following the initial training phase, the Senegalese military personnel were able to put their knowledge to the test through numerous practical exercises.
Comprehensive operational planning exercises were carried out — from initial preparation to execution and coordination on the ground — with the aim of integrating lessons learnt into complex tactical scenarios. This was followed by insertion and infiltration activities using boats, as well as movement and navigation procedures in an aquatic environment.
The course culminated in special reconnaissance tactical exercises, both during the day and at night, incorporating scenarios involving complex and technologically advanced threats. The final demonstration of the Senegalese personnel’s capabilities brought the training to a close, prior to the closing ceremony and the presentation of diplomas to the trainees.
This type of Cooperative Security Activity contributes to strengthening specialised capabilities and improving interoperability between partner countries, thereby promoting joint preparedness.
