For six weeks, twenty military personnel from the Special Operations Command (MOE) have been carrying out a new Cooperative Security Activity (CSA) in Toubakouta (Senegal) in collaboration with special operations units of the Senegalese Armed Forces.

The personnel of the Spanish contingent are specially trained in special operations related to the amphibious environment, including combat diving. Their specialisation is ideally suited to the geographical characteristics of the Saloum River delta, which provides a perfect environment for training in navigation, infiltration, survival and combat in water.

The activity combines theoretical and practical content focused on the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures in different operational environments. Key skills covered include special reconnaissance, patrolling, combat medical care, tactical planning and the use of technological resources employed in special operations. Specific content is also covered regarding countering IED threats and the reconnaissance of routes or explosive threats in various environments.

Training takes place in both daytime and night-time conditions, incorporating tactical exercises of increasing complexity that reinforce the units’ operational readiness in the face of changing and multi-domain scenarios.

These training sessions help to consolidate interoperability between the two Armed Forces, fostering the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of capabilities in a field as specialised as special operations. This activity forms part of Spain’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of partner nations, contributing to international stability through military cooperation and mutual support. In a strategic environment characterised by increasingly dynamic and technologically advanced risks, the Spanish Armed Forces continue to promote operational readiness, cooperation and the fostering of stability in areas of interest.
