After docking in the port of Djibouti on Thursday December 1st, a group of volunteers from the frigate 'Santa María' visited the 'Caritas Djibouti' orphanage centre to deliver food and medicines collected from schools in Rota and Madrid by Caritas Castrense España. The material was transported to the area of operations by the 'Santa María' in coordination with the CIMIC cell of the Operations Command.
As soon as they arrived at the facility, the children at the centre in Djibouti, who are the beneficiaries of the shipment, gave a joyful and surprising welcome to the members of the frigate, who did not hesitate to express their gratitude with emotional gestures of thankfulness. After unloading all the material, the volunteers of the "Santa María" enjoyed sharing a morning with the children, in which they were able to play sports such as football, basketball, rugby and table football.
It was certainly a special moment for the crew members who came to the centre, and who are now continuing their mission in the Indian Ocean. The 'Santa María', integrated in Operation Atalanta, contributes to the improvement of maritime security structures in this area with the aim of guaranteeing stability and development in the Horn of Africa.
