Viespe' Detachment visited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Co-operation

• The Air Tactical Detachment reinforces NATO's eastern flank air defence shield

A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEUEC), headed by Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno, landed this afternoon at Borcea-Fetesti Air Force Base in a Falcon 900 aircraft. 

This was a courtesy visit during which Minister Albares visited the Spanish troops in the context of the NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs summit being held in Romania.

This detachment is part of the Spanish contribution to NATO's request to increase enhanced Air Policing, under the operational control of the Operations Command, in order to maintain an adequate Air Shield in this area.

This force, transferred to NATO, will participate in the response and reinforcement measures of the Alliance, thus reinforcing the Allied presence on the Eastern Flank from 1 December 2022 to 31 March 2023, through the deployment of eight air defence aircraft (ADX), to effectively contribute to the deterrence and, if necessary, the defence of Allied countries.
