The submarine Isaac Peral (S-81) has completed its deployment in NATO’s maritime security operation Noble Shield in the Mediterranean Sea.
Upon arrival at the port of Cartagena, the 55 members of Isaac Peral’s crew, under the command of Commander Fernando Clavijo Rey-Stolle, were received by the Commander of the Submarine Flotilla (COMSUBMAR), Captain Alfonso Carrasco Santos.
This marks the first time a Spanish submarine has participated in this mission, reinforcing the commitment of the Spanish Navy and Spain as a reliable and committed Ally. The main objective of the deployment was to contribute to NATO’s collective defence through continuous naval presence, surveillance and ensuring freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Mediterranean Sea.
Thanks to the discretion that characterise submarines, Isaac Peral was able to carry out its mission without disrupting surface vessels. During the month-long deployment, it maximised intelligence gathering in support of the mission, completing more than 446 hours dived and covering over 2,043 nautical miles, demonstrating the full operational capability of this modern submarine.
