  •  These institutional meetings strengthen bilateral relations and promote naval projects between Navantia and Sweden

The frigate Almirante Juan de Borbón has made a port call in Stockholm, where it has received visits from Spanish and Swedish civil and military authorities

During the day, the following authorities visited the frigate: the Ambassador of Spain to the Kingdom of Sweden, Luis Manuel Cuesta Civís; the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy, Admiral General Antonio Piñeiro Sánchez; the Swedish Ministers for Defence and Civil Defence, Pål Jonson and Carl-Oscar Bohlin, respectively; the Chief of the Swedish Navy, Vice Admiral Johan Norlén; and the Chairman of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez García-Baquero.

The frigate's crew welcomed the delegations, and various institutional meetings were subsequently held, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defence, maritime security and the naval industry.

The presence of the highest military authorities from both countries, alongside representatives from Navantia and the Swedish Ministry of Defence, highlighted the strategic relevance of the naval programme currently under negotiation, as well as the mutual interest in fostering long-term technological and industrial cooperation.

During his visit to the ship, the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy, Admiral General Piñeiro, stated that ‘the Spanish Navy remains firmly committed to international cooperation. This visit reflects not only the high operational readiness of our units, but also the value that the Navy's experience brings to the development of joint naval programmes with allied countries and strategic partners.’

According to the Chairman of Navantia, ‘the presence of the frigate Almirante Juan de Borbón in Stockholm tangibly represents the close relationship between the Spanish Navy and Navantia. This ship is a clear example of the technological and industrial capabilities that Spain can offer its strategic partners, and constitutes a very solid reference for the project currently being developed together with Sweden.’

For his part, the Swedish Minister of Defence stated that ‘the port call of the Spanish frigate in Sweden constitutes an excellent opportunity to further deepen our bilateral cooperation. We highly value the technological, industrial and operational experience that Navantia and the Spanish Navy can contribute to the naval programme that we are currently assessing.’

The day concluded with guided tours aboard the frigate, during which several groups of Swedish personnel toured the main operational areas of the vessel, accompanied by members of the crew, with the aim of learning about its systems, technological capabilities, and operating procedures.

Back at sea, the frigate Almirante Juan de Borbón, under the command of Commander Miguel Adolfo Romero Contreras, and integrated into the 31st Surface Squadron of the Spanish Navy, continues its deployment in the Baltic Sea, where it combines operational activity with diplomatic, institutional and industrial engagements that contribute to strengthen Spain’s international relations and projecting the Spanish naval industry abroad.
