  • The "Méndez Núñez" visited the Naval Academy on 8 October to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic and the 250th anniversary of the creation of the Naval Academy.

The frigate "Méndez Núñez" (F-104) docked on 7 and 8 October in the port of Istanbul, Turkey, as part of NATO's Standing Naval Group 2 (SNMG-2) in which it has been integrated since 18 August. It is conducting Operation Noble Shield, whose mission is to carry out surveillance and deterrence tasks in Mediterranean waters.

On its last voyage, the Spanish frigate sailed from the port of Patras, Greece, to the waters of the Sea of Marmara, carrying out joint exercises with other NATO units, thus maintaining the naval presence and capabilities of the contingent and maximising interoperability with the rest of the force of which it forms part. During its call at the port of Istanbul, various events were held with the Turkish Navy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic and the 250th anniversary of the creation of the Naval Academy.

On 8 October, a group of the frigate's ten youngest officers visited the Turkish Naval Academy on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Naval Academy. It was a guided tour of the facilities and main buildings, accompanied by an officer and seven students in their final academic year. The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts between the Turkish Navy and the Turkish Navy.
