The frigate 'Méndez Núñez' (F-104) has been in the port of Casablanca for three days and has served as the flagship of the NATO Standing Naval Grouping 2 (SMNG-2). The ship is deployed in Operation Noble Shield in the Mediterranean Sea.
The primary mission of this operation is to conduct enhanced active surveillance activities and training exercises in the area of operations.
The NATO Standing Naval Grouping number 2 in which the Spanish frigate is integrated is currently under the command of the British Royal Navy's Commodore Paul Stroude.
Due to the tragic circumstances in Morocco following the earthquake, the entire social and institutional agenda of the ship's port of call was cancelled.
During these days different bilateral cooperation activities have been developed, both in port and at sea, in the latter case with a frigate of the Royal Moroccan Navy.
