The minehunter 'Tambre' will join Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 for three months.

• It will sail in Mediterranean waters, taking part in counter-mining operations.

The minehunter 'Tambre' has departed from the Cartagena Arsenal to begin its deployment as part of one of NATO's Standing Battlegroups, Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG-2), under national operational control of Operations Command.

The participation of the 'Tambre' in these operations reinforces the national commitment to deterrence and shared defence and contributes to the unity and interoperability of NATO forces.

Over the next three months, this grouping will sail in Mediterranean waters conducting countermeasures operations to ensure freedom of navigation and participating in multinational exercises to increase its readiness and preparedness.

The 'Tambre' is the third unit of the Spanish Navy's "Segura" class minehunter. It is manned by 46 people, forming a team specialised in detecting, classifying and destroying/neutralising sea mines. It has a variable depth sonar and two underwater vehicles as its main means for carrying out these tasks. It has participated in many national and international operations and exercises related to mine warfare, and this will be its seventh integration into the SNMCMG 2.
