The Commander of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), Commodore Paul Stroude of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, embarked last Monday, 28th August, on the frigate ‘Méndez Núñez’, from where he will assume command of the Group.
He was welcomed on board by the commander of the frigate, Captain David Antonio Díaz-Caneja, and the rest of the crew, and it is foreseen to set sail and continue its mission in the central Mediterranean integrated in the Operation ‘Noble Shield.’
Last August 18th, the frigate ‘Méndez Núñez’ joined the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), made up of different multinational maritime forces present across the Mediterranean. It has ships, helicopters and marines from different NATO member countries, which explains interoperability as its greatest strength. Its main mission is to maintain the presence and capabilities of the contingent, for which they carry out different defence operations and tasks, as well as maintaining awareness of the maritime situation where they are deployed.
