The frigate 'Santa María' has completed its deployment in the Mediterranean Sea as part of NATO's 'Sea Guardian' operation. During its 23 days of deployment, the Spanish ship has assumed the command of the "Task Group" (TG) 440.03 of the operation, which included the cooperation of two submarines, 'Galerna' from Spain and 'NRP Arpao' from Portugal, as well as supporting different flights carried out by the D4 aircraft.
The frigate has sailed more than 4,000 nautical miles at the western Mediterranean Sea in this operation, conducting maritime security operations including consensual visits to merchant ships in order to obtain a solid knowledge of the maritime environment around the area, as well as to make these ships aware of the operation. Additionally, it has conducted port calls in Tangier (Morocco) and Algiers (Algeria), to conduct cooperation activities, with the common goal of sharing knowledge with our neighbouring countries to fight terrorism throughout the Mediterranean Sea.
