  • The Spanish warship has carried out collaboration exercises in the fight against terrorism with the Moroccan navy.

The Frigate 'Santa María', part of the Atlantic Alliance's 'Sea Guardian' operation, has made a stopover in Tangiers, where it has taken part in different activities and protocol acts. In this area, Morocco is NATO's partner in the fight against terrorism in the Mediterranean Sea.

During the various visits, the crew of the 'Santa María' has explained the mission's objectives and exchanged views on illegal or illegal activities in the Strait of Gibraltar, the Alboran Sea and the Mediterranean. These working meetings were held both at the facilities of each authority and on board the frigate.

As part of the programme established for operation 'Sea Guardian', an exercise was carried out when leaving port between the Moroccan frigate 'Sultan Mouly Ismail' and the Spanish frigate in the waters of Tangiers, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea. Communications exercises, supply approaches, formations and flag exercises were successfully carried out.

Activities with NATO partners are important and valued by the Alliance to optimise and contribute in a combined manner to enhancing maritime security in the Mediterranean.
