In Adazi, Latvia.
April 15, 2024
  • The exercise, led by the Spanish sappers of eFP XIV, gathered engineers from 9 countries from the eFP deployments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

The Multinational Battlegroup deployed by NATO in Latvia was once again the organiser of the Verboom exercise. The exercise, now in its sixth edition, gathered at Latvia's Adazi manoeuvre field, engineer units from France and the United Kingdom (eFP Estonia); Germany, the Netherlands and Norway (eFP Lithuania), as well as eFP Latvia's host units belonging to Spain, Italy, Albania and Canada.

The exercise consisted of different activities focused on the construction of obstacles, the knowledge of the special engineer charges used by the different countries, as well as practices with explosives to use these charges and to break through the obstacles previously placed. Furthermore, drones were used to observe the work of each unit involved while it was being carried out.

The main purpose of the whole exercise has been the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures between the participating nations, with the aim of putting into a common framework the contributions of each country to the field, and to serve as a reason for future improvement and revision of the tactics, techniques and procedures of each contingent.

The exercise, organised since its beginnings by the Spanish participation in the Latvian eFP contingent, is held biannually, so that all NATO contingent rotations deployed in the Baltic States have the chance to participate and benefit from the experience of conducting a specific exercise for engineers in a multinational environment.
