Spanish military lead engineer training days in UNIFIL Sector East

• BRILIB HQ engineers area has organised a workshop with personnel from all Sector East contingents and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF)

In the Spanish "Miguel de Cervantes" Base, in Lebanon, training workshops for engineers were held. Operational procedures of UNIFIL and LAF personnel were coordinated.

The workshops, included in UNIFIL's annual training plan, took place from 23 to 26 JAN. They were theoretical presentations in the base's classrooms, followed by practical sessions in the working area of sappers and EOD personnel.

Precisely, the activities included: identification of conventional ammunition, action in the event of locating an unexploded ordnance (UXO) threat, basic knowledge of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), clearing mined areas, and the use of metal detectors.

The workshops were given by personnel from the EOD Team of UNIFIL Eastern Sector from the Spanish Legion, and were attended by engineers from the Indian, Indonesian, Nepalese, Spanish, and LAF contingents.

These workshops have helped to unify procedures between UNIFIL and LAF forces in order to increase the protection and security of the force. This benefits the Lebanese population with the aim of contributing to peace and stability in Lebanon, to which Spain is committed.
