Spanish Brigade officially welcomes the Argentine contingent with its flag raising

The Multinational Brigade led by Spain officially welcomes the first contingent of Argentine military in Lebanon. A new milestone is established when these two military officers join Libre Hidalgo XXXVII. The welcome ceremony was held at the Miguel de Cervantes Base (BMC) in Marjayoun.

The ceremony was presided over by the Head of the Multinational Brigade, Brigadier General Ignacio Olazábal Elorz, accompanied by the Argentine ambassador to Lebanon, Mauricio Alice. It was attended by representatives of the multinational contingents with a presence at the BMC and the Spanish contingent. After honouring the authority by a guard of honour proceeded to the Argentinian flag raising. The ceremony ended with the military parade.

The entry of Argentina into the UNIFIL mission hand in hand with Spain occurs within the framework of the 2005 Strategic Association Plan (PAE in Spanish) between the Kingdom of Spain and the Argentine Republic, renewed in the 2021-2023 Action Plan that intends to open a stage of enhanced bilateral cooperation. It includes in the field of Defence the deepening of dialogue and cooperation in areas such as cyberspace, intelligence, education and training, joint participation in Peacekeeping Operations, the development of the role of women within the Armed Forces, the support to civil authorities in the event of natural disasters and the fight against the effects of pandemics.
