UNIFIL’s Force Commander presides over the UN medal ceremony for the spanish contingent

The Spanish contingent deployed in Lebanon has been presented the UN medals for its work in the area. The troops belong to the thirty-sixth contingent of the Spanish Brigade.

The ceremony was presided over by Major General Lázaro Sáenz, who was accompanied by the Commander of the Sector East Multinational Brigade, general Armada Vázquez. The Spanish Ambassador to Lebanon, Jesús Ignacio Santos Aguado, also attended the medal parade, as well as civilian, religious and military authorities from the area.

The military parade, commanded by lieutenant colonel Santiago González Rodriguez, as head of the Protected Light Tactical Group, was made up of personnel from all the Spanish units that make up BRILIB XXXVI and personnel from the Brazilian and Serbian contingents.

After the Force Commander’s welcoming ceremony and reviewing the troops, the flags were hoisted with their respective anthems. This was followed by the presentation of the UN ribbons by the Force Commander to personnel from the different SPANBATT units.  

After the medals were presented, general Lázaro Sáenz addressed the attendees to congratulate the military personnel for their awards highlighting the work carried out by the entire contingent over the last few months. This work has contributed to peace and stability in southern Lebanon. The ceremony concluded with a military parade.

The Spanish contingent is leaded by Brigade `Canarias XVI´, since December the 4th. This is its second deployment in Lebanon.e.
