As part of the Spanish National Day celebration, a Medal Parade was held to award the personnel of the Lebanon Brigade (BRILIB) XXXV belonging to the contingents of Serbia, El Salvador, Brazil and Spain with the UNIFIL medal.

This decoration is awarded to all personnel serving a minimum of 90 days under UNIFIL mandate in Lebanon and is endorsed by a certificate signed by the Commander of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.

The ceremony, held at the Multinational Base "Miguel de Cervantes", near Marjayoun, was chaired by the head of the Mission and head of the United Nations Force in Lebanon, General Stefano del Col.

The ceremony was attended by several civilian and military officials from South Lebanon with whom the Multinational Brigade Sector East has a close relationship and collaboration. Their presence reaffirms its commitment to the work of UNIFIL units and all that they represent, as established in the recently approved United Nations Security Council Resolution 2591.

The ceremony began with the arrival of the flags of the United Nations, Lebanon and Spain. Afterwards, the Chief of Mission arrived and recieved the appropriate honors of ordinance and reviewed the force. Under the chords of the United Nations, Lebanese and Spanish anthems, the flags were hoisted, waving them in the parade ground until the end of the ceremony.

After reading the awarding order of the UNIFIL ribbon, the medal was presented to a representation of the BRILIB XXXV contingent. General de Col, in his speech, acknowledged the contribution of the nations to the UNIFIL mission and highlighted its importance for maintaining peace and security in the area, as well as the implementation of government authority in the country.

Once the flags were dismissed, a tribute ceremony was paid to the fallen, with special mention to those fallen on Lebanese soil. At the end of the ceremony, the force in formation marched in front of the authorities who chaired the medal parade.
