Commemoration of the Armed Forces Day at the 'Marfil' Aeronautical Detachment

  • The ceremony has remembered all military personnel who died in the line of duty and especially those who participated in missions abroad

At the “Escala Aeronáutica Comandante Lemaitre” of the Blaise Diagne International Airport, the entire DAT Marfil commemorated the Armed Forces Day. The event, presided by the Ambassador to Senegal, Dolores Ríos Peset, and the Force Chief, Lieutenant Colonel Raúl Ávila Gómez, it was attended by counsellors from the Spanish Embassy in Senegal, personnel from the Spanish Army and Security Forces and Corps, as well as a representation of the French and Senegalese "Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace".

During the ceremony, the Force Commander addressed a few words to the attendees, in which he thanked the attendance of all the guests at the ceremony, who with their presence showed their recognition of the work carried out by the Armed Forces deployed outside our borders. He also made a special mention to the effort made by the hundreds of soldiers who have been part of the different 'Marfil' contingents for eleven years, contributing with our allies to the fight against terrorism in the Sahel area. He dedicated an emotional remembrance to the victims of the Yak-42 accident, which a few days before was the nineteenth anniversary. Among the deceased were several members of the Air Deployment Support Squadron (EADA), a unit which provides an important number of troops to the DAT 'Marfil'

The military ceremony ended with a tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain. It was always an emotional moment, with a special remembrance for those comrades who died in missions abroad.
