  • The director welcomed the contingent and provided an explanation of the centre's activities

A delegation from the 44th Contingent of DAT MARFIL, led by Lieutenant Colonel D. Luis Miguel Castillo Ortiz, the current Force Commander, visited the ‘Instituto Cervantes’ in Dakar, Senegal. They were received by the Director of this centre, Ms. Concepción Barcelo Estevan, who explained to them the two fundamental pillars of this Institution that have been developed since its recent inauguration in December 2021, and whose area of influence covers nine countries, from Senegal to Angola.

The first pillar is the promotion of the Spanish language and the second is the promotion of mutual knowledge between the Hispanic and local cultures of West Africa.

The members of the 44th Contingent learned about the similarities between the work of the ‘Instituto Cervantes’ and of the Spanish Armed Forces abroad. Both are vehicles of Spanish culture and language. They also learned about the cultural agenda planned for the coming months, organized by the staff of this Institute.

To conclude the visit, the Director of the ‘Instituto Cervantes’ in Dakar expressed her gratitude to DAT MARFIL for its work in Senegal and its support for the promotion of the Spanish language in West Africa.
