·  Joint and Specific Staff of the Spanish and Portuguese Armed Forces meet at EMAD headquarters

Following the wake starting in 1954, the Iberian Peninsula Staff Meeting has been held these days in Madrid, celebrating, on this occasion, its 63rd anniversary. This event fosters the spirit of cooperation resulting from the Treaty of Amity signed 90 years ago between both countries. This bilateral relation is at the same time long-lasting, consolidated, secured, and, most importantly, it has a promising future ahead.

The meeting was co- presided over by Admiral Francisco Javier González-Huix Fernández, chief of the Joint Staff, and Lieutenant General Antonio Martins Pereira, Deputy for Planning and Coordination of the Portuguese General Staff. Apart from meetings in the area of joint action, the Armed Forces have had also the chance to hold bilateral meetings dealing with specific issues.

Issues such as the position taken on the main European Union and NATO current affairs, cooperation in education, cyber-defence, training or coordination when participating in international missions and operations, have been some of the topics put on the table during these days, within a friendly and close atmosphere.

The next edition will be held in the city of Lisbon in 2020.
