The Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE) has held at the Retamares base the national exercise of verification, validation and confirmation of federated mission networks, V2CN-24. Its main objective was to test and ensure the interoperability of the tactical assets of the participating units and the exchange of information of different security classifications, from the tactical to the operational level.
In total, there were 35 participants, including personnel from the Army; the Navy; the Air and Space Force; and the Joint Special Operations Command. In addition, representatives from CESTIC and the Information, Telecommunications and Technical Assistance Systems Headquarters also attended.
During the development of V2CN-24, several technical means have been used, such as tactical radios of different families and capabilities; drones; or TAK clients and servers, based on Federated Mission Networks (FMN) standards.
In addition, the data interoperability platform (PID-C2) of the FMN laboratory itself has been tested, managing to transform the data originated in the tactical networks with different formats into one compatible with the tools used in NATO, in order to exchange information.
FMNs act as a facilitator and support the Operational Commander's decision-making process, enable better situational awareness by integrating all battlefield sensors and facilitate rapid deployment from day one 'Day Zero'.
Finally, the V2CN exercise and the ATAK tests have provided a unique opportunity as an information exchange forum for the participating units to establish synergies and share how they are employed in order to fulfil Spain's commitments to NATO.
