- The Joint Cyberspace Command will launch the first university cyber event on 17 October.
The Joint Cyberspace Command (MCCE), the University of Granada, the ‘Trust Lab’ of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Telefónica have joined forces to organise the first university Hackathon in Spain. The event will be held on 17 and 18 October online.
It is expected that 125 teams made up of a maximum of four university students will compete to demonstrate their cybernetic skills. The final reward will be to participate in the Locked Shields 2025 exercise organised by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE).
The aim of the hackathon is to raise awareness of the service provided by the Armed Forces (FAS) to society in the cyberspace domain. It also aims to train and evaluate the capabilities of university students in the event of a military operation in this field.
On the first day, you will face 10 Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges. Mainly, the following disciplines will be covered: cryptography, web security, digital forensics, reverse engineering and pwn. The tests will be eliminatory, so only the teams that manage to pass the final challenge will be able to continue competing the following day.
Also, on the second day, the contestants will compete against each other in simulations of cybersecurity incidents. The phases they will have to pass the test are: identification of suspicious activity, mitigation of the attack and, finally, recovery of the system.
