A delegation from the Centre of Excellence against Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED CoE) led by its Director, Colonel Javier Corbacho Margallo, attended the Annual Military Strategic Partnership Conference (MSPC) in Doha, Qatar, from March 13 to 17. A meeting organized by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe.
During the five-day event, more than 300 participants representing NATO’s Command Structure, NATO HQ (with responsibilities for Cooperative Security), Centers of Excellence, Training and Education Facilities and friendly nations discussed how to advance NATO Partnership processes and programs, and provide at least 80 percent of the educational, training, exercise and assessment for the 2023 / 2024 period.
Due to the situation in Ukraine, at the Madrid Summit NATO took a series of decisions on Cooperative Security. This year's annual meeting was also a forum for discussion to assess the various possibilities for implementing Cooperative Security
Parallel to the bilateral meetings and discussion forums, different Centres of Excellence and other Education and Training Facilities had the opportunity to showcase their capabilities in an area organised for this purpose. They had the opportunity to provide information to interested parties. The COE C-IED was present with a stand led by its Head of Force Readiness Section and numerous expressions of interest were received from the attendees.
THE COUNTER IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE (C-IED COE)
The Counter Improvised Explosive Devices Centre of Excellence is one of the 28 NATO Accredited Centers of Excellence. It is located in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid.
As a NATO-accredited Centre of Excellence, its activities should focus on the following key areas identified by NATO: Doctrine and Concept Development, Awareness Raising and Training, Research and Development, Analysis and Lessons Learned, and Expert Advice. This conference focuses on the areas of Awareness Raising, Training and Expert Advice.
The C-IED CoE was offered by Spain to NATO as part of its network of Centres of Excellence. It was accredited by the Alliance in November 2010.
